Assistant Professor of Philosophy
The Department of Political Science, Philosophy and Geography at Eastern Connecticut State University invites applications for A tenure track Assistant Professor position in Philosophy to begin Fall 2026. Applicants must have a strong commitment to teaching excellence, scholarship, student advisement, and university and community service. ECSU is especially interested in faculty with demonstrated excellence in teaching in a liberal arts curriculum and sensitivity to diverse populations and perspectives. Eastern is Connecticut’s Public Liberal Arts University and is located in Willimantic, Connecticut which is 1.5 hours from Boston and 2.5 hours from New York City. Eastern is one of four universities in the Connecticut State College and University System (CSCU). The position also offers substantial health and retirement benefits.
Position Description:
We are looking for a generalist in Philosophy. The successful candidate will need to teach a range of topics in the western philosophical tradition, including ethics, critical thinking, social and political philosophy, some historical subjects, and more contemporary topics like feminist philosophies and philosophy of mind. Our preference would be for someone with a demonstrated excellence in teaching and experience in curriculum and program development to help guide our vibrant major into the future.

Areas of Competency:
Ethics, critical thinking, and two or more of the above-mentioned topics.
Qualifications:
Candidates should have a Ph.D. in Philosophy but A.B. D’s with adequate experience will be considered.

Compensation and Employee Benefits:
The Assistant Professor in Philosophy is a Tenure Track position and is compensated at the Assistant Professor salary level in accordance with Connecticut State University American Association of University Professors (CSU-AAUP).
