Assistant Professor of Energy and Environmental Science
Eastern Connecticut State University is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the Assistant Professor of Energy and Environmental Science position. Eastern is Connecticut’s Public Liberal Arts University and is located in Willimantic, Connecticut which is 1.5 hours from Boston and 2.5 hours from New York City. Eastern is one of four universities in the Connecticut State College and University System (CSCU). The position also offers substantial health and retirement benefits.
Tenure-Track, Full-Time Position
The Department of Environmental Earth Science (EES) at Eastern Connecticut State University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Energy and Environmental Science, beginning August 2027. We seek a teacher-scholar whose academic focus concerns earth systems, energy resources, and sustainability. The successful candidate will help shape an innovative undergraduate curriculum while mentoring students through original research, experiential learning, and community-engagement.
Responsibilities
- Teach four undergraduate courses per semester in sustainable energy, energy resources, climate, and environmental earth science
- Contribute to Eastern’s liberal arts curriculum
- Develop new courses aligned with expertise
- Maintain active scholarship including with undergraduate students
- Mentor undergraduate research and internships
- Contribute to the Sustainable Energy Studies Minor and university service
- Collaborate with the Center for Sustainability Studies

About the Department
For more than five decades, Eastern’s EES Department has built a reputation for outstanding undergraduate education grounded in field experiences, close faculty-student mentoring, and interdisciplinary inquiry. With approximately 900 alumni and one of the largest undergraduate geoscience programs in New England, the department prepares graduates for careers in environmental consulting, geoscience, sustainability, education, GIS, government, and industry. Faculty integrate geology, hydrology, climatology, oceanography, GIS, environmental chemistry, ecology, and policy to examine Earth as an interconnected system. Students routinely participate in faculty research, field studies, and extended field courses.
