Eastern Connecticut State University is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the position of Visiting Assistant Professor of Spanish, one-year appointment in the Department of World Languages and Cultures. Eastern is Connecticut’s Public Liberal Arts University and is located in Willimantic, Connecticut which is 1.5 hours from Boston and 2.5 hours from New York City. Eastern is one of four universities in the Connecticut State College and University System (CSCU). The position also offers substantial health and retirement benefits.
Position Description: Teaching duties are four courses per semester at all undergraduate levels and may include language instruction to heritage & non-heritage learners, courses in culture, upper-division conversation and composition, Spanish for the Professions, film, and translation/interpretation.
The successful candidate will join a small but dynamic department and will have significant language teaching experience and innovative ideas for upper-level courses in Spanish. Experience collaborating with community partners and engaging students in high-impact practices and potential to increase student recruitment & retention a plus. The successful candidate is expected to participate in departmental activities and engage in some academic advising.
Qualifications: Minimum requirements include a Ph.D. in Spanish or a related discipline by the start of the appointment, and native or near-native fluency in Spanish and English. The field of specialization is open, with a preference for Latin American studies and/or Caribbean studies.
