Head Cross Country Track Coach
Eastern Connecticut State University is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the Head Cross Country Track Coach position. Eastern is Connecticut’s Public Liberal Arts University and is located in Willimantic, Connecticut which is 1.5 hours from Boston and 2.5 hours from New York City. Eastern is one of four universities in the Connecticut State College and University System (CSCU). The position also offers substantial health and retirement benefits.
The Head Coach will be responsible for the leadership and oversight of a program focused on excellence at the national level. Candidates should have a proven ability to develop a highly competitive program, with a strong commitment to the student-athlete experience. Candidates should have a background in distance coaching and will be expected to recruit competitive distance rosters for both men and women. This is a full-time, 10-month position.
Specific duties will include but are not limited to: recruiting and retention of student-athletes, practice and meet preparation and coaching, supervision of part-time assistant coaches, developing alumni relations, and fundraising to provide for team opportunities. In addition, the Head Coach is responsible for administrative tasks such as scheduling meets, budget management, and filing necessary reports. The coach will have primary oversight of any home cross country meet management. The Head Coach must demonstrate a commitment to maintaining compliance with NCAA, Eastern Connecticut State University, and Little East Conference rules and regulations.
Our preferred candidate will have the proven leadership skills to create a championship culture. The successful candidate will show the strong communication skills necessary to develop and maintain positive relationships with diverse groups of student-athletes, colleagues, alumni, and the greater campus community.
Minimum Qualifications
*Bachelor’s degree required
*3-5 years successful coaching experience
*Proven ability to recruit student-athletes
Preferred Qualifications
*Experience as a collegiate head coach
*Master’s degree
*Knowledge and support of DIII rules, regulations, and philosophy
