Nursing Simulation Coordinator Administrator IV
Eastern Connecticut State University is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the Nursing Simulation Coordinator Administrator IV position. Eastern is Connecticut’s Public Liberal Arts University and is located in Willimantic, Connecticut which is 1.5 hours from Boston and 2.5 hours from New York City. Eastern is one of four universities in the Connecticut State College and University System (CSCU). The position also offers substantial health and retirement benefits.
POSITION SUMMARY
In collaboration with the nursing program coordinators and faculty within the Department of Health Sciences and Nursing, designs, implements, and evaluates evidence-based simulation experiences for nursing students at the undergraduate level. Responsible for managing and directing all activities related to simulation pedagogy and the nursing laboratories. Orients faculty and instructors to simulation procedures, location, and use of equipment and technology and manages the day-to-day operations of the Simulation Center and Nursing Simulation labs.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
May supervise professional and/or support staff of a lower grade including student workers.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
Works with faculty and staff, managing the day-to-day activities of the University Simulation labs and with clinical placements at the Simulation Center in Windham Hospital. Schedules activities, room assignments and coordinates simulation-based learning activities for undergraduate students. Arranges for set up and breakdown of simulation learning experiences.
Collaborates with the Clinical Coordinator in planning student rotations each semester for achieving the required clinical education requirements to meet accreditation standards.
Designs, implements, and evaluates simulation-based learning activities utilizing recognized standards and evidence to ensure effective learning experiences for students. Utilizes data to support quality improvement within the Simulation Center. Assists faculty to integrate simulation-based activities into their courses and into the curriculum.
Utilizes and emphasizes instructional methods that promote the development of critical thinking, problem solving, decision making, and clinical competency for real life application.
Working with Director of Clinical Education in Nursing, faculty and other members of the Department of Health Sciences and Nursing, creates a plan for expanding simulation-based learning experiences for nursing students and other members of the Eastern community including inter-professional activities.
Supports student and faculty simulation research projects and utilizes current research findings in simulation to promote best practices in simulation design and operations.
Develops instructional materials for students, laboratory assistants, and faculty. Provides orientation to faculty to the Simulation Center, equipment, and technology. Works with Information Technology Services to update equipment and technology and troubleshoots technology issues within the Simulation Center.
Maintains simulation equipment and provides for the maintenance, repair, and replacement of the equipment. Serves as a liaison to external vendors. Maintains appropriate warranties for simulation equipment.
Develops and hosts activities that support student success with the application of knowledge in the laboratory and clinical settings. Hosts open hours for students to practice and come for remediation of skills performance.
Updates and maintains clinical documentation in clinical computer software program.
Creates and maintains an atmosphere of mutual respect and professionalism and ensures student and faculty confidentiality within the Simulation Center.
Remains current in field and attends relevant conferences, webinars, and seminars as appropriate.
Performs other duties and responsibilities related to those described above which do not alter the basic level of responsibility of the position.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ATTITUDES
Knowledge of clinical simulation technology and methodology; Knowledge of best practices in simulation design and operations; Ability to lead projects and to work with diverse learners; Proficiency in purchasing and inventory control of equipment; Ability to lift and transfer simulation mannequins; Excellent organizational and communication skills.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Incumbents typically perform their work indoors, on campus or offsite at a hospital, and in person; they may be required to work evenings, weekends and outdoors for events, activities, and other programs.
QUALIFICATIONS
Master's degree in nursing from an accredited institution of higher education. Four (4) years of clinical practice experience as a Registered Nurse to include two (2) years of experience with simulation education for nursing students, simulation-based technology, simulation pedagogy, and simulation operations. Current Connecticut State licensure as a Registered Nurse.
Current certification as a Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) or Certification for Nurse Educators (CNE) preferred.
