SOCIAL MEDIA COORDINATOR

Eastern Connecticut State University is seeking a creative, motivated, and strategic Social Media Coordinator to help tell the stories of our students, faculty, staff, alumni, and campus community. Eastern is Connecticut’s Public Liberal Arts University and is located in Willimantic, Connecticut, which is 1.5 hours from Boston and 2.5 hours from New York City.  Eastern is one of four universities in the Connecticut State College and University System (CSCU). The position also offers substantial health and retirement benefits.

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of Eastern’s storytelling office — a collaborative team that shapes how the University is seen, heard, and experienced across digital platforms. The Social Media Coordinator will help bring Eastern’s mission to life by creating authentic, engaging, and inclusive content that reflects the people, places, achievements, and everyday moments that make Eastern special.

We are looking for someone who understands the power of social media to build community, elevate voices, support enrollment, celebrate student success, and strengthen institutional pride. The ideal candidate is a strong writer, creative thinker, skilled content creator, and curious digital communicator who is eager to innovate, experiment with emerging trends, and tell compelling stories in ways that connect with diverse audiences.

POSITION HIGHLIGHTS: Under the direction of the Director of University Communications & Marketing, the Social Media Coordinator will support Eastern’s digital presence by developing, implementing, and assessing social media content and strategies across the University’s official platforms, including content that supports University Communications & Marketing and Alumni Affairs.

The successful candidate will help manage Eastern’s social media channels, create engaging photo, video, and written content, monitor performance analytics, support campus partners, and identify opportunities to showcase the people and stories that define the Eastern experience — including the accomplishments and ongoing connections of Eastern alumni.
This position will play an important role in ensuring that Eastern’s online presence is strategic, accessible, inclusive, timely, and aligned with the University’s brand.

The Social Media Coordinator will help:
  • Tell authentic and engaging stories about Eastern students, faculty, staff, alumni, programs, events, traditions, and campus life.
  • Manage and create content for Eastern’s official social media platforms, including Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, Facebook, YouTube, and emerging platforms.
  • Develop social media content that supports recruitment, student engagement, alumni relations, fundraising, and institutional visibility.
  • Stay current with social media trends, platform updates, audience behavior, and best practices in higher education marketing.
  • Use analytics and audience insights to evaluate performance and strengthen engagement, reach, and effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with University Communications & Marketing, Admissions, Alumni Affairs, Media Services, Student Affairs, Academic Affairs, Athletics, and other campus partners.
  • Support healthy online dialogue by monitoring comments and responding to sensitive conversations with professionalism, sound judgment, and care.
  • Provide guidance and support to faculty, staff, student workers, interns, and campus partners involved in social media content creation.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism, public relations, digital media, or a related field; three years of experience developing and executing social media and/or digital marketing strategies; related experience in marketing, communications, content creation, journalism, or higher education is preferred; credentials and/or experience substantially comparable to the above may also be considered.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: This position typically performs work indoors, on campus, and in person. Some evening and weekend work may be required to support University events, timely content opportunities, and social media coverage.

TO APPLY: Applicants should upload a cover letter, current resume, sample portfolio, and contact information for three professional references. Cover letters should speak to the candidate’s experience with social media strategy, digital storytelling, content creation, analytics, and their interest in helping tell the authentic stories of the Eastern community.
