ADMISSIONS COUNSELOR
Eastern Connecticut State University is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the Admissions Counselor position. Eastern is Connecticut’s Public Liberal Arts University and is located in Willimantic, Connecticut which is 1.5 hours from Boston and 2.5 hours from New York City. Eastern is one of four universities in the Connecticut State College and University System (CSCU). The position also offers substantial health and retirement benefits.
Reporting to the Director of Admissions and Enrollment Management, the Admissions Counselor is responsible for representing the University both on and off campus to prospective students, parents, secondary school counselors and other individuals or organizations involved in the college selection process including at college fairs, high school visits and other events.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plan and implement recruitment activities for assigned high schools and territories, including travel both in and out of state. This may include overnight travel.
- Counsel prospective applicants on the admissions process and opportunities at the University by in-person appointments, phone calls, emails and social media outlets.
- Review and score application essays and other materials submitted by applicants for the purpose of making admission decisions.
- Coordinate and contribute to the success of various student visitation programs designed to recruit targeted prospective applicants to the University.
- Assist in the development and implementation of on-campus events and programs for counseling groups and individuals.
REQUIREMENTS AND QULIFICATIONS:
A Bachelor’s degree is required. Candidates should have strong cross-cultural, interpersonal, writing and public speaking skills, and ability to present the University in a positive way to diverse populations. Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. Position requires extensive travel and working nights and weekends as needed. This is an on-campus position. COMPENSATION AND EMPLOYEE BENEFITS:
The Admissions Counselor is compensated at the Administrative 2, salary level in accordance with State University Organization of Administrative Faculty (SUOAF).
