Eastern Connecticut State University is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the Recreation Specialist position. Eastern is Connecticut’s Public Liberal Arts University and is located in Willimantic, Connecticut which is 1.5 hours from Boston and 2.5 hours from New York City. Eastern is one of four universities in the Connecticut State College and University System (CSCU). The position also offers substantial health and retirement benefits.
SUPERVISOR: Director of Student Center and Activities or employee of higher grade
POSITION SUMMARY Provides general service to the recreation/intramural program including responsibility for the development and coordination of intramurals, recreation, club sport programs and the fitness center. Helps to establish policies and procedures and provides direction and leadership to the department. Involves significant evening and weekend hours.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED May lead professional and/or support staff.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES Develops and administers comprehensive intramural, recreation and club sport programs which includes scheduling, staff supervision, determining program content, and establishing procedures.
Coordinates recreational and intramural events including staff supervision, training, and use of facilities.
Develops a complete program for the fitness center to meet the needs of the university community.
Prepares and maintains the departmental budget for intramurals, recreation, and club sports.
Assists the Director of Student Center and Activities in the administration of all program activities as directed.
Performs other duties and responsibilities related to those above which do not alter the basic level of responsibility of the position.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Knowledge of and ability to apply federal and state laws and regulations as well as university and BOR/CSCU policies and procedures. Knowledge of and ability to apply best practices of designated unit and program. Experience in the administration of intramural and/or recreational athletics, design and implementation of strength training and fitness programming, and computer skills including experience with word processing and graphic design package.
WORK ENVIRONMENT May be required to work evenings, weekends, and outdoors for events, activities, and other programs to support special events and scheduled activities.
QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor’s degree in sports management, athletics administration, or other related area. Three (3) years of experience in athletics administration or a related field. Credentials and/or experience comparable to the above may also be considered.

Compensation and Employee Benefits
The Recreation Specialist is compensated at the Administrator III, salary level in accordance with State University Organization of Administrative Faculty (SUOAF).
